Heed The Call, Join New Lafayette Escadrille, Fight The Great Climate War
History Repeats: French president Macron is welcoming Americans who as the great climate war is refused by their president will no longer stand idly by.
The very United Nations resulted from the actions to do the right thing led by the volunteer flyers of the Lafayette Escadrille and Franco/American ambulance corps.
When the US finally entered into WWI and the horrible slaughter was done the UN resulted.
It seems to me there is historical wisdom in France once again welcoming Americans of stout heart and earnest intention to heed the call to win the war of the world, the great climate war. Their actions will trump their cowardly president inaction of today as their forefathers did long ago. This time the threat is far more than mere political national avarice, this time the battle is for the very life of the planet.
French President Emmanuel Macron Macron calls for Americans to come to France a “second homeland” for US climate scientists after Donald Trump announced America would withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement.
President Trump seems to have forgotten the history lesson of greater tragedy wrought when at the start of WWI President Woodrow Wilson similarly refused to allow the US to enter what would become The Great War. The delay resulted in countless thousands of additional lives lost.
Mr Macron immediately joined international condemnation of The President’s decision to abandon the pact for environmental action on Thursday and raised fears it could lead to “a world of migrations, of wars, of shortage – a dangerous world”.
In a live broadcast from the Élysée Palace, he also heaped ridicule on Mr Trump’s pledge to “Make America Great Again” as he urged US climate scientists to travel to France and “Make Our Planet Great Again”.
Without the support of the heads of government of the entire rest of the world and without the support of the U.S. people it is hard to understand exactly what Trump thinks he might accomplish with his singular abandonment of global action. One practical effect he likely believes in is that some few industrialists might benefit financially from his efforts to stall or stagnate global action to save the world from the dire consequences of high and rising CO2 levels from the fossil fuel age. He ignores the advice of the major industries of the United States who are fully on-side with the global action to save the world as is most recently codified in the Paris Accord.
The US president today, like President Wilson of long ago, risks the repeat of Wilson’s Folly. Wilson thought by imposing American isolationism on the world all would be well. The result was a short hiatus then entry into an even worse Great War, WWII was ended only with the advent and use of nuclear weapons. We can only hope he soon comes to his senses before it is too late.
In the meantime the French offer to come to France which will embrace and sustain American’s with skills to enter The Great Climate War is one for the history books.
As Mark Twain once said, Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.
I say, the greatest threat to this planet is waiting for someone else to save it!
