I Am Salmon Film

On the west coast of Canada, the wild salmon is a spirit animal

They are revered by the people there for their endless contribution to life of all kinds

Watch this short 7-minute film made with the help of First Nations people of Tseshaht

Or just close your eyes and listen to the beautiful narration

Film-maker Peter Mieras is a local diver and is known for numerous underwater filming projects, among them a short film that debuted in 2016 called I Am Salmon, that he created with members of the Tseshaht First Nation.

I Am Salmon was an official selection for numerous film festivals and exhibitions between 2016 and 2018, including an official selection for the Native Spirit Film Festival (2016), the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival (2018), San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition (2018) and International Festival of Environmental Films of Chefchaouen/ Morocco (2018).

Watching the salmon live their lives, or just listening to the beautiful narration imagining your grandfather might have been reciting this native wisdom around a warm wood fire before you go to sleep is well worth seven minutes of your time!

But all is not well with the Salmon.
